Okay. I think its time that I should give in to the temptation of writing a blog. I have been writing for quite sometime now, though not very regularly. Earlier I used to write in a diary, and when I bought my first computer I switched to electronic media. But blogs certainly seem a way ahead, they give more than one perspective on the same thoughts. Plus I donโt have to manage all those text files myself anymore ๐ A brief introduction about myself – My name is Animesh Srivastava and I am (actually used to be) a software engineer by profession. I completed my graduation in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 2001. After graduation I worked for three years writing software in the Investment Banking industry – starting with Webtek (which was a 100% owned subsidiary of Dresdner Klien Wasserstein Bank – now Webtek is no longer there), then Techspan India and later Headstrong Inc. It was wonderful working with some of the better minds in the Investment Banking Industry – both at Webtek and Headstrong Inc. Last when I was working with Bank of America, at their corporate headquarters in Charlotte, USA, I decided to jump into a new field – Retailing. For the past one year, I and my partner have been building up a retail chain in rural India. More on the thinking behind that switch will follow later.
I hope that over a course of time, this blog will become not only a journal of my thoughts, but also a way to connect to old and new friends. We all have our own lives, with experiences to share, and stories to tell. I would love to hear your story.
Update: Retail venture sold off ๐ A technology startup is taking shape.

Also it would be a source of inspiration for juniors from IITK (like me :-)). I hope to hear from you, your experiences and thought regularly, through your blog.

Hi Animesh ,
Welcome to the world of entrepreneurship ; chanced across your blog today. Whats common between you and me is that both of us have become self-employed recently ; however theres a fundamental difference ; I spent my last 8 years in retailing, sales & mkt, marketing research, modern trade management before jumping into new economy entrepreneurship ; you seem to have done the converse of this.
Though its not clear from your blog , what kind of retailing initiative this is.

Hi Amit,
Nice to hear from you. I have been following your blog for quite some time now; liked your post about the Naukri & Bixee case.
Ours is a discount retail chain in rural India. We intend to make the rural distribution channels efficient, bringing value to the end customer and hence gain share. You have been in retailing for long – so you know what I am talking about.
These are surely exciting times in India. Let us all move! ๐
All the best to you, and Uzanto.
Animesh.

Animesh,
Came to your blog while testing our “to be rolled” search engine. Software guy to a rural retail chain startup is a long way. Would like to hear more about your retail chain.
Could somewhat make out the journey, am myself into my third software startup since graduating from NIT, Durgapur in 2002 in Metallurgy.

Hehe this is so funny, both animesh and amit jain are part of my feeds. Anyway the startup community in india needs to be much more networked. Sure there is Tie and the bootstrapp network but that’s highly local, hope we can create a common platform for entreprenurs across inda.
